What statistical software (SAS, SPSS, STATA, etc) do you recommend for solving optimization problems that find the best filters of some variables to maximize the correlation of two other variables?

September 20th, 2008 admin Posted in Articles about BSC | No Comments »

I want to maximize the correlation between two variables: Redemption Rate and Incentive by filtering other variables (e.g. Age, Current Balance). I’m just wondering is there any software that would automate this process, instead of me having to go through trial and error. The software would have to be able to take very large datasets (up to 8 million rows of data). Thanks.

I would suggest considering using Matlab. Not only are there a variety of statistical and optimizaton procedues but you can really customize your work and what ever you end up doing with your results. I’m sure you could probably do something like this in SAS, at worst in IML, but if you can get Matlab, you’ll add all new possibilities. If you’re not familar with it, check out the website.

One of the hallmarks of leading-edge organizations - be they public or private - has been the successful application of performance measurement to gain insight into, and make judgments about, the organization and the effectiveness and efficiency of its programs, processes, and people. However, leading organizations do not stop at the gathering and analysis of performance data. What You Can Sell

A friend and former colleague called me recently to ask my advice on a new entrepreneurial venture that he was contemplating. His main question was around whether he should wait for all the elements of his business offering to be ready prior to launching. Essentially, he was wondering how much of the product/service needed to be fully baked for him to launch successfully. Read the rest of this entry »
